With our Seed Health Development team consisting of seven colleagues, you will lead projects on the development and improvement of seed health testing methods in an industry leading seed health testing laboratory.
You will be driving the evaluation of the performance of new and existing testing methods, generating validation data for external accreditation purposes and international acceptance, as well as investigating the efficacy of disinfection treatments. The Seed Health Development team is an integral element of the Global Product Quality Control organization and ensures the delivery and maintenance of test protocols for use in Syngenta’s vegetable and flowers Quality Control labs.
Healthy final products and intermediate propagation materials are critical for our business. New technologies and tools help to unambiguously determine the health status of seeds and plants in a timely manner. Optimal use of these new technologies remains dependent on a thorough knowledge of the biology of plant pathogens. Using this knowledge and your expert judgment of the potential for routine use of new pathogen detection techniques, you will deliver innovative but well-founded improvements in testing methods.By contributing to the International Seed Health Initiative for vegetables you will support the global industry in securing the supply of healthy seeds. You will build expertise to become a point of reference for phytosanitary challenges in the company.As our Supply Chain operates on a global level, you will have the opportunity to work together with counterparts in seed health testing in other regions as well as with colleagues in seed production and seed processing.
You have a master’s or Ph.D. degree in life science and preferably you have specialized in plant pathology or in pathogen diagnostics in other fields. You have ample experience with molecular diagnostic techniques and underlying bioinformatic approaches. You have shown to be able to formulate research questions and convert them into well-outlined and successful projects. You are a pro-active team player that is able to guide and inspire colleagues across varying backgrounds and experiences. You are willing and able to travel internationally to collaborate on and implement testing methodologies across the regional Syngenta testing facilities. You are fluent in English and have excellent communication and reporting skills.
